Day Tripping to Leavenworth

dventuring outside of the country can add up to more money than is often attainable so when I am wishing for a taste of Europe I find myself booking a trip to Leavenworth, WA. Located about two hours from Lake Stevens, this cute little Bavarian themed village is a unique place that offers a variety of entertainment, shopping, cuisine, and seasonal events. Whether you want to spend just a day or make a weekend trip out of it, you won't be disappointed.

For this day trip do not bother packing a lunch. There is so much delicious food you will have to come back to try it all. Among my favorites are the Munchen Haus (German), Visconti's (Italian), and The Keller (Bavarian/German). If you have never tried German food before this is the place to indulge in it. If you have room for dessert make sure you visit The Keller for their Schwartzwalderkirschtorte. This black forest cherry chocolate cake may have a difficult name but it will be easy to eat.

While we are on the topic of sweets, make sure you visit Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory to bring some delicious treats home to enjoy later. On a hot day stop by Viadolce by Visconti's for home-made gelato. Good luck picking just one flavor!

After grabbing a bite to eat stroll through the downtown shopping area and make sure to go into every shop. Each one offers something different from gourmet hot sauces and jellies to unique jewelry, to the most interesting selection of hats I have ever seen. If you are ever in need of a little Christmas spirit, the little shop Kris Kringl houses Christmas decorations all year. Thousands of ornaments adorn the trees and shelves of this beloved store.

Leavenworth also provides outdoor recreational options. Fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and rafting are among the most popular attractions. For the golfers, there are multiple courses in the surrounding area with beautiful layouts.

From June 19th to the 22nd Leavenworth will be hosting the International Accordion Festival. Accordion artists from all over will be performing at the Gazebo throughout the weekend.

Kinderfest takes place on July 4th and provides family-friendly activities. Arts and crafts, a giant slip and slide, and face painting are just a few of the fun attractions for the day. This event is free for all children.

Whether your interests pull you to the outdoors, shopping, or a love of food – Leavenworth has it all. Enjoy a little bit of everything and make sure you bring your camera to capture all the fun!
