Day Tripping: Gig Harbor

Mount Rainier looms above Gig Harbor with a beauty that mesmerizes all who visit Gig Harbor.

hether you are hunting for retail therapy, a sip of a good latte by the ocean, or a refreshing run through beautiful sights; downtown Gig Harbor has a little of everything. About an hour and a half from Lake Stevens Gig Harbor is nestled in the Puget Sound. Gig Harbor is known for its heritage, culture, and charm.

One of the best nights to see it all is Thursday Night Out. On the second Thursday of every month this cozy town celebrates a night of good food, shopping, art, and live entertainment. June 12th from 5pm to 8pm will be the next Thursday Night Out and will not be lean on excitement. Although this is more of an evening trip, it is definitely worth the visit.

At Morso, a wine bar on the waterfront, every month they feature a Muse at Morso where they have a premier author who recites pieces from the community. As a lover of writing this is my favorite event and I highly recommend it if you have a special place in your heart for written works of art.

To celebrate art in the community Thursday Night Out offers an artwalk. Galleries along the waterfront will be open to showcase jewelry, beautiful boats, pottery, and much more. One of my favorite places to stop in is Turner Glass Works. The gallery is stunning and if you are lucky you can catch them giving a live glass blowing demo.

If history interests you make sure you stop in Harbor History Museum. Mostly Books also has reading material on the local area and a selection of new and used books. If you didn't get your fill of books there, make sure you stop in the cleverly name No Dearth Of Books.

Tickled Pink, Emilie Gallery and Boutique, and Sea Hags are some of my favorite places along the waterfront to find unique and fun trinkets and gifts.

Live entertainment is different every month but there is always a wide variety. Many businesses along the waterfront have a different artist and style of music or entertainment. Stay at one place that interests you or experience them all.

I hopped from shop to shop, café to bar, musical entertainment to readings. Three hours simply isn't long enough to enjoy the fun of downtown Gig Harbor!
