Lake Stevens Journal - Your hometown newspaper since 1960
Dear Editor,
Are you looking for ways to keep the kids busy this summer? Need an inexpensive activity that keeps them physically active, where they can learn new skills and build new friendships? Then take a look at the Lake Stevens Soccer Club and our programs designed for kids ages five through 18.
The purpose of LSSC is to provide soccer sporting activities to Lake Stevens area youth, to teach soccer skills and sportsmanship to LSSC participants and to provide an arena for players to compete within the Washington State Youth Soccer Association. As a recreational club, our emphasis is on fun and we value the participation and development of each player.
LSSC provides three distinct programs for our players.
Our Rocket program has teams comprised of boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 6. Their 10 week session begins in mid August and consists of practices followed by a game each Saturday at the Lochsloy Fields on Highway 92. This is a players introduction to soccer, playing with coaches that make the sessions fun!
Our Modified (MOD) soccer teams are for boys and girls ranging in age from 7 to 10 years old. Their practices are normally twice a week out at Lochsloy, beginning in mid July, followed by a 10 week game season that starts the weekend after Labor Day.
Our Recreational (REC) teams are the older 11 through 18 year old boys and girls. These teams practice twice a week at the new Lake Stevens Community Park on Machias Road and have a 10 week game schedule. Both Rec and Mod teams will normally play five home games and five away games at neighboring club’s home fields…this helps the kids get used to different venues and adds a sense of excitement as the team travels to away games!
I have been actively involved with the Lake Stevens Soccer Club for the last twelve years. I have had the privilege of coaching several teams over this time and have seen kids really enjoy themselves in this program. All of my boys have been through this program and have learned new skills and made lasting friendships. Our coaches are some of the best in the area who give selflessly of their time and energy.
Most of our coaches take advantage of the additional training programs that we offer during the season. Some of these programs are also made available to the players to help with their confidence and development. To top it off, I am honored to work with a dedicated group of board members who strive tirelessly to ensure that the program runs as smoothly as possible.
If you are interested, please come out and join us this season. To save money, you can take advantage of our early registration that starts March 24. Please go to http://www.lakestevenssoccer.com to register or for more information. We look forward to seeing you on the pitch!
