Two named to the Granite Falls H.S. Alumni Hall of Fame

Teacher and Coach Mike Hahn started the GFHS Alumni Hall of Fame in the 1993-94 school year. It was established to promote and honor positive role models who were active in school activities, graduated from Granite Falls High School and have gone on to be positive, productive citizens and role models.

On Thursday, Feb. 7. Dave Larsen and Betty Dennis Mastrude were both honored at an induction ceremony during halftime at the school’s basketball game.

Dave Larsen graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1988. During his High School years, he was involved both as a student and community member.

While in High School, he was an offensive lineman for the football team, which finished second in league with a 4-1 league record. For the first time since 1976, the Tigers played in the state play-offs.

Larsen also volunteered with the Granite Falls Fire Department, while in High School and after graduation.

He coached Little League baseball from 2001-2005 and coached Middle School basketball and was the assistant coach for the Granite Fall Swish League. When kids could not afford warm up jackets Larsen would willingly pay for them.

He has served on the Granite Falls City Council and acted as mayor pro-tem in 2001.

In 1997 Larsen purchased Marshall Signs from a former Granite Falls volunteer fireman and has since created and donated many signs for the people in the Granite Falls area including the Granite Falls High School “Glory Board”.

He is married to Sherry and has two children, Riley and Kailey enrolled in Granite Falls High School. Riley will graduate in June and will be the third generation of Larsens to graduate from Granite Falls High School.

Betty Dennis Mastrude graduated in 1966 where she was involved in Girls Club, Pep Club, Torch Club, German Club and Medical Science Club.

She worked for the Snohomish County Public Works, was a supervisor at Swedish Hospital, cooked in nursing homes and ran the food bank at The Father’s House from 2002-2007.

She has received numerous awards including a Certificate in Nutrition and Diet Therapy and Volunteer Service Award from the Granite Falls Boys and Girls Club.

At the present time Mastrude is the Fellowship Meal Program Coordinator at the Salvation Army. She helps prepare and serve approximately 1,500 meals a month.

She is well liked by all and appreciated for the meals that she prepares for them.

Mastrude still resides in Granite Falls with her husband.
