On February 8, 20 students attended the Future Business Leaders of America Northwest Regional Competitions at Sedro-Woolley High School. Most of the students competed in three or four events. Students took tests, participated in various public speaking events, networked with students from nine other schools and had a great lunch.
At the end of a busy day the students were rewarded for their hard work. Fourteen of the students won awards with several students winning in multiple events. These students are now eligible to continue on to the state level competitions in Seattle on April 16 – 19. FBLA advisor and business leader, Sherry Lund, commented, “I am extremely hopeful for all of the students placing in the top five for the state competition, knowing the competitors this year are fierce.”
This year, the majority of the Granite Falls High School students are underclassmen and they are learning the ropes and expectations throughout each competition. Lund further stated, “The exciting part is that this group will be around for two more years! By the time they are seniors I think that we will see a majority of these students winning awards at state!”
The entire state experience helps the students to grow and mature as leaders in the business area and they each receive opportunity to be involved members in this organization. Student competitors, along with educators and business leaders from all over the state will congregate for the competition. The experience of these competitions is inimitable. They will be able to foster new relationships and networks that will help them grow as young business leaders. “It is a pleasure to work with them and be their advisor,” said Lund.
