2013-2014 Rotarian of the Year, Dr. Tracy DeLorm, receives her award from Jim Kelley, 2013-2104 Rotary Club President.
Each year the Rotary Club of Lake Stevens recognizes a member for their outstanding contribution to the club and the community. This achievement belongs to Dr. Tracy DeLorm, DDS, who has demonstrated exemplary service to the Rotary Club of Lake Stevens, said Gary O’Rielly 2014 -2015 Rotary President.
Out-going President Jim Kelley announced his selection at the Club’s annual Installation Banquet, where DeLorm was taken by surprise. ” I was listening to Jim (Kelley) talk about all the Rotary events this person was involved in, and then he mentioned additional volunteer works, and finally when he told the gender of the person, that’s when I realized it was me!” DeLorm said.
Jim Kelley recognized Tracy DeLorm as the Rotarian of the Year for 2013-14 for her major contributions to the club as chairperson of the Community Services Committee, chair of the AquaFest/Duck Dash Committee and her role as a leading member of the Wine, Beer and Silent Auction Committee and as a member of the Board of Directors. On the Rotary’s website Jim Kelley said he chose DeLorm for all of the energy and drive she shares with the Lake Stevens Rotary Club.
Talking to DeLorm, that doesn’t come as a surprise. When asked why she chose to join the Lake Stevens Rotary Club back in October of 2002, her response was absolute. ” My dental practice had been open for over one year and I wanted to give back to my community.
The Rotary is known for doing great things in the community. Especially in scholarships to local LSHS Seniors. The international motto for the Rotary Clubs is: Service above Self. That’s exactly what I was looking for.” Said DeLorm.
Growing up in Lake Stevens Dr. DeLorm said she actually surprised herself and perhaps her family when she returned home after Dental School and purchased her Father’s, Dr. Eugene Richardson’s DDS dental practice. She attended Western WA University for her undergrad degree. This is where she met the man who would also become her husband. The two of them would later spend three years in the San Francisco Bay area while Tracy DeLorm went to Dental school. “We had so much fun living in the Bay area.” DeLorm said.
Coming back home to Lake Stevens has proved to be good for her and her husband. DeLorm’s Dental practice is doing well and she said she, “had only two more payments to her Father” and than the practice is all hers! Thirteen years ago in July 2001, she was the newest dentist in town. Today, her name is very well know and respected in the Lake Stevens community. Not only because she works hard in her dental practice, but because she is constantly giving back and not expecting anything in return.
Aside from the Rotary DeLorm has served on the Board at the Lake Stevens Family Center, which is very dear to her. ” I loved serving the Family Center and being on their Board. When I felt I wasn’t able to give my all, my best to both the Rotary and the Family Center, I had to make a hard choice. Even though I chose the Rotary, the Lake Stevens Family Center is close to my heart and I do whatever I can for them. They are a great organization.” Said DeLorm.
DeLorm is involved with Sno-Isle, and serves on their Board for the Dentistry Program offered. She gives her time freely to Medical Teams International Dental Vans several times through-out the year. These mobile dental vans help only people who are uninsured. Everyone who works on the dental vans is a volunteer, with the exception of the driver, DeLorm said. We try to help people who need basic fillings and occasionally if we have a dental hygienist on board we can offer teeth cleanings. When a dental need seems too great for them to take on in the mobile van they help the uninsured find the help they need without the worry of insurance or much money.
“Tracy is an extraordinary person with deep roots in our Rotary Club. Always willing to step up to any challenge.” Said 2014-15 Rotary President Gary O’Rielly. The purpose of the Rotarian of the Year award is to honor and recognize an individual Rotarian. This is Tracy DeLorm’s year.
