A few facts about Mt. Everest:
Everest is the highest
mountainon Earth, with it’s elevation at 29,029 feet. The first recorded ascenders were Tenzing Norgay and (Sir) Edmund Hillary on May 29, 1953. Although Tenzing had climbed (28,199 ft) the
previous year as a member of the 1952 Swiss expedition. Sir Edmund Percival Hillary was a New Zealand
mountaineer, explorer and
philanthropist. Both Tenzizng and Hillary were named by Time Magazine as one of the most influential people of the 20th century.
The international border
between China and Nepal runs across the precise
summit point. Mount Everest is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas.
