Randy Edens, the Lake Stevens High School (LSHS) girls basketball coach, is the National Federation of State High School Associations 2012 Coach of the Year in girls basketball for Washington state. Edens has coached at LSHS for the past eight years. In addition to coaching, he teaches global studies at the High School.

“I work with a fantastic group of talented young ladies and dedicated coaches,” said Edens. “I really enjoy coaching and have established some great relationships with my players and the community.”

Edens has a tight-knit coaching staff—including volunteers Steve Berg and Gil McKinnie—who have helped the team excel. Berg and McKinnie, both retired teachers, have more than 80 years of coaching experience between them.

“I try to create an environment where players and coaches feel supported and valued,” said Edens. “It’s always nice to be recognized.”

Edens began his coaching career at Marysville-Pilchuck High School and was at Burlington Edison High School before coming to LSHS. He was also the 2012 Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year.
