Saturday will be full of holiday spirit and opportunities to give

One thing you can say about the people who live in Lake Stevens is that they are always there to give each other a helping hand.

In the last couple of months there have been several fundraisers for families who live in this tight-knit community and thousands of dollars have been given to help those families out in their time of need.

This weekend will give everyone a chance to do a little something for their neighbor in need with the Dickens Fair, Tips for Firefighters and even the Christmas Open House being held at Cascade Park.

The holiday season seems to amplify the effects of those who are struggling to pay their bills throughout the year but because of these fun, family events on Saturday, many of these families will be able to continue to put food on their tables and maybe even ensure that their children receive a few gifts for Christmas.

The Dickens Fair will be held at Cavelero Mid High School with handmade crafts and gifts being sold in over 90 booths. Students from all over Lake Stevens will be performing musical numbers that will entertain the crowds. All you need to bring is a canned food item as your admittance fee.

This food is donated to the Lake Stevens Food Bank to help families throughout the holiday season and the rest of the year.

You can also visit Cascade Park just outside of Granite Falls for a Christmas Open House from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. that will include several exhibits throughout the park. They too are asking for a canned food item or an unwrapped gift item as your entrance fee.

These items will be distributed to local food banks.

Lake Stevens firefighters will be bussing tables at Ixtapa for their 10th annual Tips for Firefighters beginning at 6 p.m. Firefighters will not only be working to earn extra tips but they will also be taking monetary donations as well as unwrapped Christmas gifts.

Each year our local firefighters raise money to provide Christmas gifts to children living within the Lake Stevens School District.

You can also stop by downtown Lake Stevens where the Kiwanis Club will be hosting their annual tree lighting ceremony and Santa will be arriving to pass out gifts to all the children. The celebration begins at 5 p.m. with Santa arriving and lighting the tree promptly at 6 p.m.

The Kiwanis Club raises money throughout the year to be able to bring this event to our community.

Get out your warm winter clothes because it is calling for snow, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying a fun filled day in Lake Stevens while helping others.
